Announcements
Attendance
Please have your children in school when they are not ill.  It is important that they are here to review for the SOL Test.
SOL Testing
Testing is quickly approaching.  The following dates are being given in advance to help you plan accordingly.  Please try to schedule appointments on days that do not conflict with testing.

Reading SOL - May 24-25
Math SOL - June 7-8
Science SOL - May 21
It is important that students are in school on these days and are rested and prepared.

Agenda
It is important to continue checking your child's agenda each night.  They have homework every night and should be copying all assignments.  Look for papers to come home each week on Friday.  Feel free to call me if you are not seeing the agenda, assignments, or graded work.

SOL Writing Test
Fifth grade students will be taking their first SOL test on March 6th and 7th.  The multiple choice section will be on the first day and the writing prompt will be on day two.  Please be sure your child has plenty of rest and eats breakfast.  It is important that they be in school on these dates, or they will have to take a make up test.

I am an author!  I can do this!
Materials Need To Be Replenished:)

Many students are running low on supplies.  Please ask your child what they need.  Most students are running out of pencils, crayons, and glue.

Daily Oral Language
The first SOL Test is Writing.  This test will be taken in the beginning of March.  Students are practicing prompt writing and working with testing strategies.  The first part of the test will be multiple choice and works with the understanding of the writing process.  Students work with the 3 Domains of writing each day.  They need to be able to compose,  revise for written expression, and edit for usage and mechanics.   Usage and Mechanics is an important piece of understanding, speaking and writing the English language.  You can support your child by helping them to edit all written work and by correcting them when they speak incorrectly.
